This morning, officers on patrol in Ashford stopped a driver who was seen using a mobile phone whilst driving. Following checks, it was established that the driver had no lawful excuse for using the device and was reported for the offence.
Using a hand-held mobile phone whilst driving is one of the ‘Fatal Four’ behaviours that significantly increases the risk of being involved in a serious or fatal collision. Taking your eyes off the road for just a few seconds can have devastating consequences. Promoting road safety and tackling dangerous driving remains a priority for Kent Police. The penalty for using a hand-held mobile phone whilst driving is typically 6 penalty points and a £200 fixed penalty notice. Drivers who passed their test within the last two years may have their licence revoked.
